Not So Relaxing Review

Retro Vaporwave Background
Lethal Company
Space

Theres nothing like good company. If you have a good group of friends to play co-op games with then you have probably heard of Lethal Company. This game takes you on a bizarre adventure through space, where you visit different moons. These moons contain different facilities that have a bunch of random junk scattered around the area. The point of the game is simple, get the loot! But of course, there is a catch… well multiple catches, monsters. Anything from a friendly loot bug to the horrific jack in the box, there are all sorts of monsters. And the developers keep adding more! So, grab your friends, turn off the lights and let’s review and find out if this is the game for you!

When it comes to the plot of the game, there really isn’t one. If anything, there is some information hidden on the ship’s computer and you can hack your way to find the lore. As well as going to the company planet and exploring there. Now there is an actual story going on, such as what is this big contraption underneath the landing pad? Or what little pieces of lore you can find on the ship’s computer. However, the main plot to me is the story you create throughout each playthrough. That might sound cliché, but it’s the truth. When you’re with your friends, journeying through space just trying to find lots in random places, there is so much room for activities. Overall, this game is just a sandbox full of scary monsters that are trying to ruin your day, kind of reminds me of real life.

What I tell people before they even play the game is that it looks like shit. But I really mean that in a good way. The graphics are grimy, rough, and grainy. That just adds to the flavor of the game. Another upside is that it means it’s a lot easier to run, so for all of you that have crap-top don’t worry because it will run this game! As for the look of the monsters, moons and indoor areas. They are all horrifying. First off, the monsters have a range of looks. From the cute loot-bug who just wants some loot for himself. To the neck-snapping Bracken. The loot-bug is a plump little green guy that runs around, that’s all I swear. The Bracken, if you’re lucky can see his glowing white eyes through the darkness, sometimes you don’t even see him- he will just run up behind in and snap. But if you do get a good look at him, he is this terrifying shadowy skeleton that is also probably about eight or nine feet tall. And the indoor areas are filled with darkness, so you had better bring a flashlight. But if you’re a real champ like me you never bring one.

There aren’t many little things to pick up on throughout the game. It should be mentioned though that this game itself is a little thing. To where this is the definition of an indie game, the development team was as small as 1 person for a while. This game also came out of nowhere. There were a bunch of AAA games coming out at the time and then Lethal Company blew them all out of the water. And if anything brought a resurgence to coop games.

This game is overall a fantastic game and I can see myself playing this until the day I die. But if you are not a big fan of horror games, but can at least stand your friends a little bit, then you need to try this game. And if there is one thing that this game shines at, is no two experiences will ever be the same, which should be the beauty of gaming.
